Wendell Mitchell (D-Luverne) today presented Troy University a check for $5,000 to help pay for improvements to the University’s historic Quad. “My times at TROY are so special to me,” said Mitchell speaking on the Quad. “I was told you needed money to further improve the Quad and I wanted to do my part in helping this beautiful area.” TROY Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins Jr. said the Quad, redesigned three years ago following the original Olmsted Brothers landscaping plan, serves as a focal point for Southeast Alabama. He praised Sen. Mitchell for his continued support of the University. “Sen. Wendell Mitchell has been an important player on this campus for many years,” Dr. Hawkins said. “We’re appreciative today of the dedication of our great senator.” In 1998, the University dedicated Wendell Mitchell Hall, located on the University’s Sorority Hill. Mitchell Hall houses Troy University’s Inservice and Continuing Education Center.
