Troy University will host the 2007 Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar May 18 -20 on the Troy Campus. HOBY ambassadors, all rising juniors, are nominated by their schools in Alabama to attend this leadership conference.
May 18: will open at 11 a.m. in Crosby Theatre on the Troy Campus. Speakers include: Dr. John Kline, Mayor Jimmy Lunsford and HOBY Chairman Jonathan McKenzie. At 12 p.m. a luncheon in Stewart Hall will take place for the HOBY ambassadors with the keynote address by Miss Alabama 2006 Melinda Toole. Ambassador orientation will take place from1:15 – 3:15 p.m. in Crosby Theatre. Session I, “America’s Unsung Heroes: Volunteer Leadership,” begins at 3:15 p.m. and is followed by Session II, “The Entrepreneurial Spirit: Follow that Dream,” in Crosby Theatre.
May 19: Sessions begin at 8 a.m. and last through 5 p.m., followed by a letter writing workshop. Skit performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. in the Trojan Center Ballrooms. Session topics on Saturday are:
- · “Communication – Today and Tomorrow”
- · “Education in Alabama: Kids, Politics & Our Economic Future”
- · “The Big Business of Sports”
- · “Service Project”
May 20: Sessions begin at 7 a.m. with an interdenominational prayer breakfast in Stewart Hall. “Spirit of Democracy” and “Leadership in Business: What Will it Take for Tomorrow” run from 8:15 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. in Crosby Hall. At 11:30 a.m., final conference remarks will be made in Crosby Theatre. A reception in Sartain Hall beginning at 2:30 p.m. concludes the HOBY events.
A parent’s orientation session will begin at 11 a.m. in Sartain Hall.
