EDITORS/NEWS DIRECTORS: An actuality for this release may be downloaded at http://www.troy.edu/news/radios. A transcript follows end of release.

TROY – Troy University’s Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion will host its summer program “Kids at Kollege” in two sessions over the summer.

Session I runs May 30 – June 14, with registration in 205 Wright Hall from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., excluding 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., May 28 – 29.

Session II runs July 9 – July 24, with registration in 205 Wright Hall from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., excluding 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., July 2-3.

Glenda Locklar, who coordinates the annual summer program for the University, said the program benefits children by providing them with new experiences, exercises and “getting away from video games and television.”

Started as a reading program for children of University faculty and staff, she said Kids at Kollege was expanded to include different topics and opened to the community at large.

“The program has been offered for more than 30 years and gives people from the area the chance to come to campus and see what TROY has to offer. Some University students even sign up their children for Kids at Kollege while they are taking their college classes,” Locklar said.

About 125 children sign up each year for the program.

Session I classes include:

  • Art & Drawing: Two-Dimensional Design (8 a.m.) for grades three through seven, taught by senior art major Elizabeth Lakso (class is $40 per child and limited to 20 students);

Actuality Transcript: We just feel like it’s a great opportunity to bring people ton campus to show them what the University has to offer. There’s a lot there for people to take advantage of and a lot of people don’t know that we’re here, that we offer these things, so we just try to do that and let everyone participate, join in and have fun.
