During the Wiregrass Conference on Education, Troy University leaders welcome State Superintendent of
Education Dr. Joseph Morton (center) and State Board of Education Member – District 2/TROY Alumna Betty Peters
to the Dothan Campus. Dr. Morton shared the positive results of some of Alabama’s key education initiatives including Alabama Connecting Classrooms, Educators and Students Statewide (ACCESS); the Alabama Reading Initiative (ARI); and the Alabama Math, Science and Technology Initiative (AMSTI). Pointing out Alabama’s significant increase in reading scores on the National Assessment for Educational Progress, he credited ARI and classroom teachers with helping students make the largest gain in fourth-grade reading in the history of NAEP. Progress such as this, Dr. Morton said, is capturing the attention and respect of the nation. Pictured with Dr. Morton and Peters are TROY Head Baseball Coach Bobby Pierce (left), TROY College of Education Dean Dr. Lance Tatum and Dothan Campus Vice Chancellor
Dr. Don Jeffrey.
