Troy University student’s artwork pays off

TROY—A Troy University art and design student has received a $1,500 cash prize from a South Carolina-based technology manufacturing firm for designing a poster promoting the company’s main product.

Turgay Tuncer, 27, competed with more than 100 other student artists from around the nation in the poster contest sponsored by eDR Solutions of Greenville, SC. The poster promotes the Hard Drive Crusher, which physically destroys obsolete hard drives so that no information can be recovered from them. Tuncer’s winning artwork resulted in a donation of a Hard Drive Crusher, valued at $11,500, to the information technology department at Troy University.

Charles Smith, president and founder of eDR Solutions, presented Tuncer with a check and presented Dr. Jack Hawkins, Chancellor of Troy University, with the Hard Drive Crusher Thursday morning.

After receiving the Hard Drive Crusher, Dr. Hawkins crushed the first hard drive on behalf of the University.  Other faculty members of Troy University who were present for the ceremony included Jerry Johnson, Chair of the Department of Art and Design, Sara Dismukes, Tuncer’s graphic design professor and Greg Price, Chief Technology Officer.

Tuncer, a native of Istanbul, Turkey, lives in Enterprise. He said he was “very honored” to receive the award. He is scheduled to graduate in May of 2009.
