Confucius Institute dedication ceremony

Nov. 21: The Confucius Institute at Troy University will officially be dedicated Friday, Nov. 21 during a gala luncheon event in the Hawkins-Adams-Long Hall of Honor. The event begins at 11:30 a.m. and will include a ceremony and entertainment. In addition, a special statue will be unveiled by Troy University and its Confucius Institute partner Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology.

Speaking at the event will be:

  • ·        Dr. Jack Hawkins Jr., Troy University Chancellor
  • ·        Mr. Tang Shengling, President, Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology
  • ·        Mr. Yan Xueqian, Deputy Director, China Youth Center

The unveiling of the statue will take place during the first portion of the program and immediately following remarks by the primary speakers.

At 1 p.m., special entertainment will be provided by faculty and students of the Chinese Student Association:

  • ·        Solo “Hulusu” by student He Yiwen
  • ·        Solo on a stringed instrument by student Zhang Ren
  • ·        A Kung Fu demonstration by Zhao Wujun
  • ·        Solo of a Chinese Folk Song by Dr. Timothy Phillips
  • ·        accompanied by Dr. Hui Ting Yang

We will accommodate a 15-minute media availability at 11:15 a.m. in the lobby of the Hall of Honor. Please be in place by 11 a.m. in order to cover this event. Any special coverage requirements should be directed to clusk@troy.edu. Please confirm your attendance at this event by 9 a.m. Nov. 21 so that we may be better able to accommodate your organization’s coverage. We will also provide lunch to those members of the working media who would like to join us in Stewart Dining Hall.

 

International Education Week

Nov. 17-21: International Education Week is being celebrated at Troy University. On the Troy Campus, the week includes:

  • ·        Saturday-Sunday, Nov. 15 – 16: International Soccer Tournament, intramural fields
  • ·        Wednesday, Nov. 19: International Fair on the Quad
  • ·        Thursday, Nov. 20: Guest lecture in the Hall of Honor by Dr. Dennis del Castillo Torres, of Peru entitled “Deforestation, Livelihood and Climate Change in the Tropics”
  • ·        Friday, Nov. 21:  Guest lecture by Dr. Torres in Room 124 of the Math and Science Complex entitled “Biodiversity Conservation in the Peruvian Flooded Forest”
  • ·        Friday, Nov. 21: International Student Cultural Organization’s ISCO Festival beginning at 6 p.m. (this is a very visual event with food and entertainment)

Salute to Armed Forces football game

Nov. 22, 6 p.m.: The Troy Trojans salute America’s armed forces during the football game Louisiana-Lafayette. This includes pre-game and halftime shows, and military personnel at Fort Rucker, Fort Benning and Maxwell Air Force Base may contact their Public Affairs Office for free tickets to the game. Non-uniformed military members and veterans who do not contact their respective PAO may purchase discounted tickets at Gate 1 of Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium for $8 by showing their military ID. A highlight of this event will be a special halftime show by the Sound of the South Marching Band.
