TROY journalism students bring home regional awards

TROY— Troy University journalism students have garnered accolades in the National Broadcasting Society’s Region 3 Audio-Video competition.

TROY students competed against journalism schools in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi and South Carolina.

Junior MacKenzi Hicks, a broadcast journalism major from LaGrange, Ga., took top honors in the Best TV News Anchor category and a second-place finish in Best TV News Reporter for her coverage of “9/11 Flag Ceremony” and “Gas Prices in Troy” entries.

Melissa Harrison, a senior broadcast journalism major from Dothan, brought home a third-place honor with her “Phi Mu Teeter-Totter for Project Hope” story.

“This was one of the largest competitions we’ve had and we’re extremely proud of our students for showing what TROY is doing in its journalism program,” said Dr. Jefferson Spurlock, an associate professor who serves as NBS advisor.
