September 26, 2008 TROY chancellor meets with U.S. ambassador to Chile SANTIGO, CHILE – Troy University Chancellor Jack Hawkins, Jr., and a delegation of university presidents and chancellors from the American Association of State Colleges and University, met with U.S. Ambassador to Chile Paul E. Simons Thursday kicking off seven-day educational mission to the South American nation.The delegation is visiting Chile Sept. 24-30 to meet with Chilean higher education authorities and attend the XV World Congress of the International Association of University Presidents (IAUP) that will take place next week in Viña del Mar. The AASCU is a higher education association representing 430 accredited public colleges and universities and systems of public higher education throughout the United States. More than 3.6 million students attend AASCU member schools. In addition to Dr. Hawkins, the delegation visit to Chile includes the presidents of Northeastern State University, Oklahoma; Kutztown University, Pennsylvania; Western New Mexico University; California State University, Dominguez Hills; Arkansas State University system; California State University, Channel Islands; University of Virginia-Wise; and the chancellor of the University System of New Hampshire. Their program in Santiago includes meetings with Chile’s Ministry of Education officials, University of Santiago de Chile authorities, the Fulbright Commission, and the Binational Center to address possible international exchanges and to develop new linkages for their faculty and students. Similarly, they will visit with University of Bio Bio authorities in Concepcion, and the University of Viña del Mar, in Viña del Mar and of Playa Ancha in Valparaiso. Troy University has long been recognized as a leader in international education, both for its dual-degree exchange programs and for its reach with more traditional degree programs through its Global Campus, that operates teaching sites or campuses in 12 nations, one U.S. territory and 15 states outside of Alabama.
