Troy University alumnus to address annual Honors Convocation
TROY, Ala. – Retired Brigadier General Edward F. Crowell, U.S. Air Force Reserve, will deliver the keynote address at Troy University’s Honors Convocation at 7 p.m., April 13, in the Claudia Crosby Theater on the Troy Campus.
The annual convocation is held to recognize students for outstanding academic, character and leadership achievements during the academic year.
“This convocation provides the University with the opportunity to pay tribute to the fine work our students do both inside and outside the classroom,” said Barbara Patterson, director of student involvement and leadership.
Among the awards to be presented are the Ingalls Award, presented to the outstanding faculty member of the year, and the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award, given to a senior male and female student and to a distinguished faculty or staff member.
The Ingalls Award is given annually to the teacher on the Troy Campus who has “most diligently, effectively and cheerfully conducted his or her classes during the current academic year.” Students nominate faculty members for the award, and a committee of students and faculty advisers selects the recipient.
The Sullivan Award, which is presented at select colleges and universities throughout the United States, recognizes recipients for their excellence of character, humanitarian service and spiritual qualities. The award has been presented annually at TROY since 1981. Students, faculty and staff nominate candidates for the award.
Gen. Crowell, who earned a Master of Business Administration degree from TROY in 2001, retired in February after 35 years of service. Since 2005, he had served as the mobilization assistant to the commander, Air University, Air Education and Train Command, Maxwell Air Force Base. He has served a number of short tours of active duty in the Air Force Reserve Command while maintaining civilian employment.
In civilian life, Gen. Crowell is senior vice president of Miltope Corp., a major defense contractor. He is responsible for all human resources, computer information systems, facilities, safety and security matters companywide.
