TROY, AUSA partner to offer scholarships to Army NCOs

DOTHAN—Troy University and the Wiregrass Chapter of the Association of the United States Army have partnered to offer full graduate-level scholarships to two Fort Rucker noncommissioned officers for the fall 2009 semester.
 
The Wiregrass AUSA and TROY announced the partnership on Friday, April 17, during the AUSA general membership luncheon in Daleville.
 
The U.S. Army has named 2009 the Year of the NCO, and in recognition the AUSA and TROY will offer the one-time scholarships to help two NCOs further their careers, said Sam MacMaster, president of the AUSA Wiregrass Chapter.
 
“Because NCOs are truly the backbone of the Army, we felt this was the best way to help them advance to future positions in the Army and to advance them to future careers after the Army,” MacMaster said.
 
The AUSA will select the recipients from a pool of applicants by the end of July in order to start classes at the Dothan Campus in the fall. The scholarships will cover all books tuition and fees.
 
Dothan Campus Vice Chancellor Dr. Don Jeffrey said the scholarships are another example of TROY’s longstanding relationship with Fort Rucker.
 
“Our heritage in the Wiregrass starts with Fort Rucker,” Jeffrey said. “We are absolutely proud to be a partner in this scholarship and it is especially meaningful to me because I retired from the Army as an NCO.”
 
TROY began offering extension services at Fort Rucker in the early 1950s.
