TROY Dothan Campus to host Wiregrass Conference on Education

DOTHAN—Dozens of Wiregrass-area school teachers will get new ideas for the classroom on Tuesday, Jan. 6 during a daylong conference at Troy University’s Dothan Campus.

The second annual Wiregrass Conference on Education, sponsored by the TROY College of Education, will provide professional development for K-12 teachers, said Dr. Rodney Davis, associate professor of education.

“It’s a chance for them to hear strategies that they can use in the classroom and to be inspired by our speakers,” Davis said.

The conference will start at 8:30 a.m. inside Sony Hall in the Library Technology Building and will conclude at 4 p.m.

The keynote speaker for the conference will be Dr. Tommy Bice, deputy state superintendent of education.

Others speakers include Chike Acua, founder of Teacher Transformation, and TROY chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., who will discuss the globalization of education.

Dr. Hawkins will speak during the noon luncheon in Malone Hall.

There will also be 14 workshops led by TROY education faculty members on topics including increasing parent involvement, using technology and art in the classroom and leading from the heart.

Registration is $35 and includes lunch. For more information, contact Davis at davisr@troy.edu.
