Troy University to dedicate Alabama's newest College of Education building

TROY – Gov. Bob Riley, State Superintendent of Schools Joe Morton and Troy University officials will officially dedicate the state’s newest education college building Tuesday, Jan. 27.

The University’s College of Education, which has inhabited McCartha Hall since 1949, will consolidate all of its classes and faculty offices into 90,800 square-foot Jack Hawkins, Jr., Hall – providing education students a more streamlined educational experience.
 
Gov. Riley, president of the University’s Board of Trustees,  will provide the dedicatory address for the event that begins at 3 p.m. inside the building located on University Avenue.

Named in honor of Chancellor Jack Hawkins, Jr., by the Board of Trustees, the building includes 12 classrooms, two technology teaching laboratories, three counseling laboratories, three conference rooms, and a faculty work room. Two of the 12 classrooms are interactive video conference classrooms. The building’s atrium houses the Alabama Educational Leadership Hall of Fame.
