DOTHAN—Troy University’s History and Political Science Department at the Dothan Campus recently initiated two students and a faculty member into the Iota Mu Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the nationwide History Honor Society.

Al Edwards of Enterprise, Hayden McDaniel of Dothan and Christopher Shaffer, director of the Dothan Campus Library, were welcomed into the honor society on April 5.

To be initiated into the society, undergraduate students must have taken at least four history classes, have a GPA of 3.25 in those classes and have an overall grade point average of more than 3.1. Professors above the rank of instructor are automatically eligible for membership.

Founded in 1921 at the University of Arkansas, Phi Alpha Theta brings together authors, researchers, teachers and students for intellectual exchange and to promote historical study. It consists of more than 839 chapters in fifty states, and has initiated more than 350,000 members since its inception.

The Dothan Campus has initiated members into Phi Alpha Theta since 2003.
