TROY—Troy University student Josh Johnson is headed to New York City, where he will compete Friday as a finalist in a national contest with a chance to win a prize worth more than $20,000.

Johnson, a senior music industry major from Florala, is one of five national finalists in the Zale’s Jewelers “Profess Your Love Contest,” co-sponsored by the Times Square Alliance. Entrants were asked to submit, in 250 words or less - in written, video or musical form – “their most sincere, original, creative and eloquent profession of love.”

Johnson submitted an original song for his entry, which he will perform for a panel of judges on Friday. The grand prize winner will receive a 2 CT. princess-cut celebration diamond ring valued at $21,995.

Johnson has been a member of the percussion section of the Sound of the Sound Marching Band and the Symphony Band.
