14th Annual Helen Keller Lecture to be held at Troy University April 9

Troy University will hold the 14th annual Helen Keller Lecture at 10 a.m., Thursday, April 9, in the Claudia Crosby Theater on the Troy Campus. Joel Slack, an international consultant and trainer in the field of mental health, will be the speaker for the event. The Montgomery resident, who suffered a mental breakdown while in college and was institutionalized for two years due to schizophrenia, will speak on mental illness “From the Inside Out.” A press release on the lecture is available at troy.edu/news/archives/2009/march/03232009_keller_lecture.html. In conjunction with the lecture, Troy University will present an art and essay exhibition, featuring the work of school children with special needs from Troy and Pike County schools, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, in the Trojan Center on the Troy Campus. TROY students will be asked to vote on their favorites and awards will be given for the top three finishers in each age division.
