TROY—Troy University’s College of Communication and Fine Arts Department of Theatre and Dance will offer a creative drama performing arts camp for children and youth in July.

The camp, “Summer Spotlight,” will kick off on July 12 at 2 p.m. at the Trojan Center Theater. The remainder of the camp will be held July 13 through July 16 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. It will be led by Tori Lee Averett, an adjunct faculty member of the Department of Theatre and Dance.

During the camp, youth will participate in workshops that will teach various arts such as creative movement, dance, storytelling, and arts and crafts. At the end of the week, youth will also perform in a showcase on July 16, at 6:30 p.m. at the Trojan Center Theatre.

“Summer Spotlight” is geared toward serving the community through the arts.

“It is part of our new theatre education program in the Department of Theatre and Dance, where students can major in theatre education, grades P-12,” said Adena Moore, Director of Department of Theatre and Dance. “It is an important step in serving the Arts, children, and youth and the community. I hope all will take part of this awesome opportunity.”

All “Summer Spotlight” activities are based on the National Standards for Arts Education-Dance-Music-Theatre-Visual Arts-What Every Young American Should Know and Be Able to Do in the Arts, and also the Alabama Course of Study for Arts Education.
