TROY, Ala.—A Grammy Award-winning singer and star of “Real Housewives of Atlanta” has been added to the lineup for the ninth annual Leadership Conference Celebrating Black History Month, according to Catherine Jordan, chair of the conference steering committee.
Kandi Burrus, a former vocalist for Xscape who won a Grammy for her work on TLC’s hit “No Scrubs,” will speak at the Leadership Conference. Co-sponsored by the University and the City of Troy, the Leadership Conference annually brings together civic and community leaders, clergymen and business leaders in a collaborative and educational forum. This year’s conference is scheduled for Feb. 5-6 on the Troy Campus.
“Kandi Burrus is a great addition to our conference,” Jordan said. “Those who attend will be able to hear a noted TV actor and an outstanding broadcast journalist and now they will hear this outstanding vocal performer as well. It’s one of the most interesting and diverse conference schedules we have ever had.”
The Leadership Conference committee had announced earlier that Tim Reid, an actor, director and producer best known for his roles on hit television series such as “Sister, Sister,” “Frank’s Place” and “WKRP in Cincinnati,” and broadcast journalist Lyn Vaughn, who anchored CNN’s Headline News for more than 13 years, will be the featured speakers. Reid will close the conference as the luncheon speaker on Saturday, Feb. 6, while Vaughn will provide the conference opening keynote address on Friday, Feb. 5.
Registration is $30 and online registration can be accessed at http://troy.troy.edu/leadership/aalc/, or by contacting the University’s Institute for Leadership Development at 334-670-5686. Troy University students may attend the conference for a $15 registration fee.
