Sexual Assault Awareness Day to be held at TROY Dothan Campus

Posted: Wednesday, 06 April 2010

DOTHAN—Troy University’s Dothan Campus will spotlight community resources available to victims of sexual assault during the second annual Sexual Assault Awareness Day on Wednesday, April 21.

The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Dothan Campus quad. The program is a joint effort of TROY, the Ft. Rucker Soldier Service Center, the Southeast Alabama Child Advocacy Center, the Wise Center, the House of Ruth and the Alabama National Guard Sexual Assault Response and Prevention Center.

Each group will have a table set up with information available about sexual assault awareness, prevention and resources for victims said Sandra Hatfield-Sauls, a TROY counselor.

“We hope to make people more aware of the issue of sexual assault and what resources are available,” Hatfield-Sauls said. “We’ll be passing out information and answering questions.”

Sexual assault is an issue that effects people of all ages, Hatfield-Sauls said. April is also Child Abuse Awareness month, and officials with the Child Advocacy Center will be at the event to provide information about child abuse.

Teal pins and bracelets, which symbolize sexual assault awareness, will be given away during the event.
