The Troy University Department of Theatre and Dance is offering area high school students and recent high school graduates the opportunity to take part in an intensive 5-day program this summer that will immerse participants in all phases of theatre performance.
The Department’s “Performance Intensive,” set for July 18-22 will provide training in the areas of beginning, intermediate and advanced acting, scene study, musical theatre vocals and dance, stage combat, play writing, auditioning and interviewing, beginning directing, Shakespeare study, monologue selection and preparation and the business side of theatre.
“The ‘Performance Intensive’ is not a camp or a workshop, but rather an ensemble of high school theatre students, all at various stages of their development, who are committed to their potential in theatre,” said Adena Moree, TROY’s director of theatre. “It’s also an important opportunity for recent graduates who will be entering university theatre programs.”
The event is open to rising ninth through 12th graders and entering college freshmen. Check-in and orientation will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 18. The event will conclude with a showcase performance at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 22.
Participants may choose from a residential option in which they will live in dormitory facilities on the Troy Campus or a commuter option. Registration cost for those residing on the Troy Campus is $300. Registration for commuters purchasing a meal plan is $200, while registration for those commuters not purchasing a meal plan is $150. For additional information or to download a registration form, go to the Department of Theatre and Dance page on the Troy University Web site at troy.edu, or contact the department at 334-808-6142.
“Performance Intensive” is a part of the Department’s Summer Spotlight series, which also includes a Creative Drama day camp for ages 4 to 14, which is set for July 11-15.
