TROY has insurance symposium and career fair

TROY—The 16th annual Troy University Excess and Surplus Lines Symposium and Career Fair will bring together students and insurance industry executives Oct. 8 – 9.

Sponsored by the Risk Management and Insurance Program, the career fair opens the symposium on Friday and gives insurance executives the opportunity to meet students from TROY and 15 other universities.

On Saturday, educational programs begin at 8 a.m. at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Birmingham and run through the day. Presenters include:

  • John Latham, president of Markel Insurance Wholesale Division in Richmond, Va.;
  • Nick Abraham, Property and Casualty Binding manager for Markel;
  • Fran O'Connell, vice-president Professional Liability Underwriting for Shand Morahan in Chicago, Ill.;
  • Pat Talley, U.S. central regional director for Lloyd's of London;
  • Patti Berry, senior vice-president of Peachtree Brokers in Atlanta, Ga.;
  • Richard Bouhan, executive director of the National Association of Professional Surplus Lines Offices in Kansas City, Mo.; and
  • Marcus Payne, managing director of All Risks Ltd. in Dallas, Texas.

“This 16th annual symposium brings together surplus lines insurance executives and insurance majors from Troy University and fifteen other universities for the purpose of learning about this industry and for the purpose of networking for internship and job placements,” said Dr. Carol Jordan, eminent scholar and professor of risk management and insurance in TROY’s Sorrell College of Business.
