Alabama Poet Laureate to conduct workshop at Troy University

PHENIX CITY—Aspiring authors will get a chance to learn tips of the trade from Alabama’s Poet Laureate during a workshop at Troy University on Friday, Feb. 25.

Sue Brannan Walker will conduct a writing workshop titled “Writing on the Environment” from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Phenix City Campus inside the Higginbotham Building, room 123.

The event will also include readings of Walker’s work.

Walker, a professor of creative writing at the University of South Alabama, was named to a second consecutive term as the state’s Poet Laureate in 2008. She has published five volumes of poetry, including “Blood Must Bear Your Name,” which won Book of the Year from the Alabama State Poetry Society, and critical articles on authors such as James Dickey, Marge Piercy and Margaret Atwood.

She is also editor and publisher of Negative Capability Press, which has published the work of numerous Alabama poets and authors.
