TROY—The Troy University Dance Repertory Ensemble will perform a Winter Dance Concert at the Claudia Crosby Theater at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 11 and 12.
The show will feature many different forms of dance from the commercial to the artistic with an emphasis on what is current now in the world of dance. Audiences can expect to experience the magic of contemporary storytelling, the electricity of jazz, the beauty of pointe, and the street flare of hip hop.
The concert will feature choreography from several professional artists, as well as student choreographers. The students whose choreography will be featured include Christie Crawford, Caitlin Parish, Adrienne Hicks, Kaitlyn Morgan, Sydnii Todd, Ryan Wagstaff, Jacobi Hall, Patrick Pugh, Christina Green and Stephanie New.
The professional artists who contributed their choreography include Laura Brown Givens, Glen Jenkins, Traci Klein, Nikki Loud and John-Mark Owen, as well as faculty choreographers Tracy B. Gilland and Kerry O’Brien.
Gilland, who is new to TROY’s dance program, said she is excited about the amount of effort the ensemble has put into producing an entertaining and successful concert.
“The Troy Dance Repertory Ensemble is an elite group of dancers and I feel privileged to have the opportunity to direct such an accomplished group of young artists,” Gilland said. “I am pleased and inspired by their level of commitment and the countless hours of sacrifice that they have given to their craft and to the success of this show.”
Gilland holds a bachelor’s degree from The University of Alabama and a Master of Fine Arts degree from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. She has traveled internationally as a soloist dancer and as a teacher. Before furthering her career, she owned and operated a thriving dance studio, Dance Dimensions, in Ozark.
