ARLINGTON – Troy University has named an international scholar to its Atlantic Region faculty.

Dr. Justin Leach has been named Assistant Professor of International Relations at the University's Arlington, Va., site. He comes to TROY from the Australian National University in Canberra, and much of his research is focused on the relationship between China and the Sudan, and the development of nationalism.

"Our International Relations Department aims to offer students an opportunity to acquire detailed knowledge and understanding of international political and economic trends," said Lesa H. Shepherd, Associate Director of Academics for the Atlantic Region.

"Dr. Leach's experience in Australia, along with his concentration on Middle East and Central Asian studies is an important manifestation of this goal," she said. "We welcome him to deliver an international scope to our students in Virginia."

A member of both the Sudan Studies Association and the Middle East Studies Association, Dr. Leach completed his undergraduate degree at St. Edwards University, and then went to Australia where he completed a master's degree in Middle East and Central Asian Studies, a Master of Diplomacy degree and completed his doctoral work in political science and international relations at Australian National University.

Next spring, a book on the Sudan by Dr. Leach, co-authored by I.B. Tauris, is expected to be published.
