Troy University associate dean tapped for editor of national journal

TROY – A Troy University professor and administrator has been appointed to lead the nation's foremost sport and recreation law journal.

Dr. John Miller, Associate Dean of the College of Health and Human Services, was appointed to a three-year term as editor of The Journal of Legal Aspects of Sport, the official journal of the Sport and Recreation Law Association. The Journal is recognized for its research into the application of legal concepts into practitioners in the professional and amateur sport industry including sports clubs, fitness, health and wellness centers, physical activity and recreation.

"The College of Health and Human Services is pleased to learn of Dr. Miller's appointment as Editor of the Journal of Legal Aspects of Sport (JLAS). Dr. Miller is widely respected on an international level as an expert on risk management and legal issues in sport, and this most recent honor is a natural outlet for his expertise," said Dr. Damon Andrew, Dean. "I am certain that JLAS will grow in prestige and quality under his leadership."

It is a rigorously peer-reviewed academic journal intended to the meet the needs of the sport law educators, and is in the upper echelon of journals in the field of sport management both nationally and internationally, Miller said.

"The Journal of Legal Aspects of Sport has a long and successful history of publishing important research in the area of legal concepts in sports, recreation, and physical activity," he said. "It is unique in that it blends the traditional, law-review qualitative research with quantitative research analysis."
