Insurance executive to address graduates

TROY – Troy University Trustee Karen Carter will provide the address to about 450 graduates in commencement exercises on the Troy Campus Dec. 16.

The exercises will begin at 10:30 a.m. in Sartain Hall, and require a ticket for admission but is free to attend. The graduates represent 16 U.S. states and territories and 15 nations outside the United States.

Carter, who was appointed to the Board of Trustees in 2009, also serves as Chairman of the Troy University Foundation Board of Directors and is Agency Field Executive for State Farm Insurance Companies. She was previously Vice President - Agency for the company's Southern Zone and was the company's Life Marketing Director responsible for creating marketing strategies and advertising, including campaigns that garnered national recognition in the advertising industry's EFFIE Awards.

She is a chartered life underwriter and chartered Leadership fellow, and a 1973 graduate of Troy University. She earned marketing certification at the Kellogg Business School at Northwestern University, and has completed leadership concentrations in Stanford University's Executive Program, the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business and the Dow Leadership College at Hillsdale College (Mich.).

She currently serves on the Business Council of Alabama, Junior Achievement of Greater Birmingham, the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors and formerly served on the board of directors of the United Way in Illinois.
