Troy University alumnus Jeff Coleman, president and CEO of Coleman World Group, encouraged new TROY graduates on Friday to live a life of love and selfless service.
Delivering the keynote address to nearly 300 graduates during ceremonies at Trojan Arena on the Troy Campus, Coleman said challenges will inevitably come but maintaining the proper attitude can lead to success no matter the circumstances.
“When you are facing the storms and challenges of life -- and I assure you they will come -- I encourage you to fully apply yourself, in whatever path you endeavor to follow, with an attitude of love and selfless service," Coleman said.
Holding up a lantern, Coleman encouraged the graduates to “let your light shine with love and a smile."
Coleman congratulated the graduates on their completing their degrees.
“For many of you, today represents the reward for many years of committed, dedicated work," he said. “Just 22 percent of working Alabamians hold a baccalaureate degree, so today you are joining a distinct group of elite company."
Coleman, a Dothan native, earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama and a Master of Business Administration from TROY. In 2003, he was Alumnus of the Year. He currently serves as Chairman of the Alabama Commission on Higher Education, on which he has served since 2006.
In the corporate world, Mr. Coleman oversees one of the top 50 largest privately owned companies in the state of Alabama. Coleman World Group's two main divisions are Coleman American Moving Services and Covan Worldwide Moving.
Friday's graduation included the University's first graduates in the Master's degree in Strategic Communication program. In all, graduates participating in Friday's ceremony represented 18 states an d 10 countries.
