Candlelight vigil set to honor memory of students killed over the holiday break

TROY -- A candlelight vigil has been set for Wednesday, Jan. 15 on the Bibb Graves Quad to honor the memory of four students who died in off-campus incidents over the Christmas break. The event is set for 4:30 p.m. and is open to the public.
The students who will be remembered at the event are:

  • Haijiao Sun, from China, who graduated on Dec. 13 and died on Dec. 21 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Gainesville, Fla.;
  • Kimberle Johnson, a junior Social Work major from Montgomery, who died on Dec. 28 as the result of a shooting incident in Montgomery;
  • Kristin Fuller, a freshman Social Work major from Luverne, who died on Jan. 1 as the result of a shooting incident in Crenshaw County; and,
  • Jadarius Garner, a sophomore from Clarksdale, Miss. and a member of the Trojans football team, who died after being struck by a vehicle in Bolivar County, Miss.
    In addition, the Office of International Programs will hold a memorial service for Haijiao Sun at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16, in Bibb Graves Hall.
