TROY - Donna Riley, Human Resources Specialist at Troy University, has won the University's Vergil Parks McKinley Award.
Riley, who has been employed by the University since 2004, received the award on Wednesday during a ceremony in the Hawkins-Adams-Long Hall of Honor on the Troy Campus. Dr. John Dew, Senior Vice Chancellor for Student Services, presented the award to Riley, who was nominated by Dr. Toni Taylor, Senior Human Resources Director.
The McKinley Award is the highest honor that Troy University gives to a non-faculty staff member. It is presented quarterly to an employee who has demonstrated outstanding attitude, innovation and work ethic. The award was established by the late John McKinley, former Texaco CEO, in honor of his father, Vergil Parks McKinley, who was a Troy University professor during the early 20th century and was key to the development of the University's athletic program. Winners of this award receive an engraved clock and a $1,000 stipend.
"Donna Riley truly stands out as an employee that goes above and beyond and excels at her job," Dr. Taylor said. "Student workers adore her and other HR employees turn to her when they are in need of expertise or help with a project. Her integrity and reliability permeate not only her work life but also her life outside of work. Donna's work ethic and positive attitude reflect well on the HR staff and the entire University."
Riley said she was honored and grateful to receive the McKinley Award.
"I grow every day that I work at Troy University," she said. "I've learned a lot in my time here. I'm grateful to Dr. Taylor and the Human Resources staff, and I'm very pleased and proud to call myself a member of the Trojan family."
