Alumnus named superintendent of Jefferson County schools

Troy University graduate Dr. Craig Pouncey (1980, 1985) was recently named superintendent of the Jefferson County School System.

Dr. Pouncey most recently served as chief of staff of the Alabama Department of Education during which he was responsible for day-to-day operations of the department including financial matters. He also served as deputy state superintendent for administrative and financial services in 2010, assistant state superintendent in 2005 and director of administrative and financial services.

As deputy state superintendent of education, Dr. Pouncey was responsible for areas including student transportation services, child nutrition programs, school facilities and technology initiatives for school systems across Alabama.

Pouncey holds both a bachelor's and a master's degree in elementary education from TROY. He also holds an educational specialist degree from Auburn University in Montgomery and a doctorate in educational leadership from Samford University.
