TROY - Troy University will celebrate homecoming on Oct. 11 under the theme "Getting Back to Our Roots: We Are One."
Alumni Director Faith Ward is extending the invitation to all alumni and friends of the University to return for Homecoming activities.
"Troy University has seen much growth and progress through the years, and Homecoming is always a special time as so many alumni visit, share their memories and marvel at the changes that have occurred," Ward said. "This year's Homecoming theme provides us an opportunity to celebrate our heritage and the many milestones achieved throughout our history that have paved the way for the TROY we know and love today."
TROY students will kick off a week of activities on Saturday, Oct. 4 with a Homecoming Service Day. Two on-campus projects have been identified as service projects – the beautification of the University's Arboretum and a canned food drive.
Students will host a blood drive on Monday, Oct. 6, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Trojan Center. A tree ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. on Oct. 6 in the foyer of Trojan Dining. Individuals will have the opportunity to purchase a $3 leaf on which they will write the name of a student and place on the tree. A drawing for a scholarship will be held later.
Students also will hold a Tailgate for Troops on Friday, Oct. 10, in which each organization will prepare a popular dish from another country. A $5 wristband will enable participants to sample all food and drink. Proceeds from the event will be used to provide bedding and personal hygiene products for local veterans.
Student organizations will be involved throughout the week in various competitions such as a dance contest and skit night. In addition, the University will reach out to online students or those unable to attend homecoming events by providing various activities throughout the week through Trojan Café, an online gathering place available to students.
A homecoming pep rally will be held on Friday, Oct. 10, beginning at 6 p.m. in Trojan Arena. All alumni and friends are welcome. The pep rally also will be streamed live.
A reunion will be held at 5 p.m. on Oct. 10 for World War II-era alumni in the Stadium Club, located on the fourth floor of the R. Douglas Hawkins Press Box Tower.
Activities will get under way on Oct. 11 at 10 a.m. with the annual Homecoming Parade, presented by the Pike County Chamber of Commerce, in downtown Troy. Trojan Walk is set for 11:45 a.m. beginning at Sartain Hall and ending at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
