Fifteen to vie for title of Miss Troy University

TROY - Fifteen students will compete for the title of Miss Troy University on Saturday, Nov. 1.

The 44th annual pageant will begin at 3 p.m. in the Claudia Crosby Theater on the Troy Campus. Student admission is $5 and general public is $10.

The winner will serve as an ambassador for the University and will compete for the title of Miss Alabama. Contestants are judged on a private interview, an on-stage question, swimsuit, talent and evening gown.

Contestants in this year's pageant are:

Laura Machen

Laura Machen

Laura Machen, a freshman accounting major from Alpine. Her platform is "Elementary Literacy." She will be performing a ballet en pointe called "Sparkling Diamonds."

Meleah Morris

Meleah Morris

MeLeah Morris, a junior exercise science major from Ocoee, Fla. Her platform is "Connecting with Diabetes." She will be performing the traditional Scottish "Sword Dance."

Raven Pasibe

Raven Pasibe, a junior broadcast major from Dothan. Her platform is "Fit for Life: Overcoming and Outliving Obesity." She will be performing an original comedic monologue titled, "Finally Home."

Shelby Bottoms

Shelby Bottoms, a senior elementary education major from Hartford. Her platform is "Operation Smile." She will be performing an interpretive song using sign language titled "Smile."

Chelsea Johnston, a senior elementary education major from Cottonwood. Her platform is "Investing in our Future: One Child at a Time." She will be singing "Let It Go."

Mati Anderson

Mati Anderson, a sophomore dance major from Franklin, Tenn. Her platform is "Phoenix Rising: Empowering Survivors of Domestic Violence." She will be performing a contemporary dance to Maya Angelou's poem, "Still I Rise."

Carlie Spencer

Carlie Spencer, a sophomore math and computer science major from Montgomery. Her platform is "Women in STEM." She will be performing an acrobatic dance routine to "If They Could See Me Now."

Victoria Bailey, a junior broadcast journalism major from Sylacauga. Her platform is "No One Fights Alone." She will be singing "Ain't No Sunshine When He's Gone."
