TROY - Troy University has named Sharleen Smith as the Director of Professional Development for the University's Department of Continuing Education with a focus on providing training, consulting and leadership development for businesses.
A veteran business trainer and consultant, Smith has more than 30 years of experience in training, consulting, executive coaching and motivational speaking.
Smith understands the needs of organizations and the challenges of today's workforce, said Dr. Lee Vardaman, Associate Provost of Academic Support.
"Sharleen is a great addition to our staff," Vardaman said. "She will be leading the Professional Development Division on all campuses as well as working with public and private organizations in the areas of training and consulting. Forming partnerships within the communities where our campuses are located is a goal that TROY takes seriously. As a leading educational institution, we want to support, guide and offer services that enhance businesses around us."
Smith is an expert in more than 200 training topics including leadership, team work, communication strategies, management, and employment law. She is one of the most sought after executive coaches in Alabama, whether mentoring C-level leaders, developing younger leaders, or growing business strategies.
"I believe I created and conducted my first leadership academy in 1990—this was before most people had heard the words 'leadership academy,'" Smith said. "Though consulting and coaching are important, my passion is training. I believe when people are learning they increase their possibilities professionally and personally."
