TROY - More than 500 middle and high school band students from Alabama, Florida and Georgia are on the Troy Campus this week taking part in the Sound of the South Marching Band's annual Leadership Camp.

The camp, which will run through June 18, includes courses in concert band, music theory, percussion ensemble, majorette, color guard, drum major and dance line that will help students develop skills necessary for individual and ensemble performance.

"Everyone benefits from the intensive instruction at the camp," said Dr. Mark Walker, director of university bands. "Hopefully, they will take what they learn at this camp back to their schools this fall and make their bands even better."

A final concert for each group will be held in Sartain Hall on the last day of camp.
