TROY - Troy University's "Welcome Weekend 2015" is scheduled for August 8-9. This weekend will include on-campus move-in for residents and the 11th annual Odyssey Convocation for New Students.
Students will be able to move into the University's residence halls beginning on Saturday, August 8. A number of TROY faculty, staff, and members of the community will be on hand to assist with hospitality and moving between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sunday move-in will take place between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. fall semester classes will begin on Wednesday, Aug. 12 on the Troy Campus.
Troy University alumnus Patrick Claybon, news update anchor with the NFL Network, will serve as the keynote speaker for the Odyssey Convocation for new students on Aug. 9 at 3 p.m. in Trojan Arena.
"The Odyssey Convocation is both a tangible and symbolic reminder to our entering students that they have begun their journey at Troy University," said Dr. Hal Fulmer, associate provost and dean of first-year studies and undergraduate studies. "For each student that beginning in the Trojan Arena at the convocation is the first step toward the completion of an undergraduate degree with TROY. Every journey, and every meaningful activity, begins with first steps."
A two-time State High School Decathlon champion born and raised in Birmingham, Patrick graduated from TROY in 2006 with a B.S. in Broadcast Journalism, where he was involved with the award-winning TrojanVision news team. He also served as a resident assistant and participated actively in intramural sports.
In 2007, Claybon joined WTVY News 4 in Dothan as a reporter. He later became sports director and anchor at WTVY, before moving to WIAT TV in his hometown of Birmingham for the same position.
Claybon joined the NFL Network in October 2014.
