Troy University to honor Dr. Doug Hawkins with memorial service

TROY - Troy University will honor the late Dr. Doug Hawkins with a memorial service at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16, in the Claudia Crosby Theater on the Troy Campus.

Members of the community are invited to attend, along with faculty, staff, students and alumni.

Dr. Doug Hawkins, who passed away Sept. 5, 2015, was appointed to the Board of Trustees at Troy University in 1980, serving as President Pro-Tempore from 1995 until 2011. He served as President Pro-Tempore Emeritus until his passing.

Dr. Hawkins served TROY in many capacities, including as a long-time member of the Troy University Foundation Board of Directors.

Founder of the Pi Kappa Phi Chapter at TROY, he was named Greek Man of the Year in 1969 and was named Honorary Alumnus of the Year in 1996. In 2013, he wrote "Turning Points" a history of Troy University. The tower at Veterans Memorial Stadium that houses the press box, the suites and the athletic training facilities bears his name.
