TROY - Troy University's Dr. Judson Edwards, dean of the Sorrell College of Business, has earned the accolades of a national organization.

Edwards has been named the recipient of the Robert W. MacVittie Emerging Leader Award by the American Association of University Administrators. The award will be formally presented at the organization’s Leadership Seminar in San Antonio, Texas in June.

"I am extremely honored to be selected as the MacVittie Award winner for 2016, but this recognition is shared with the entire faculty, staff and administration of the Sorrell College of Business," Edwards said. "We all work together in leading our students to future success through a steadfast commitment to high-quality teaching, engaging with the business community, caring for students, and producing relevant scholarship."

When he was appointed dean in 2010 at age 37, Edwards became the youngest business dean at a public university in Alabama. Under his leadership, the Sorrell College has undergone a major administrative reorganization, program revisions, and is in the implementation phase of AACSB accreditation. He has led the creation of outreach and research centers in the College such as the Manuel H. Johnson Center for Political Economy, the Center for Entrepreneurship and Economic Innovation, the Center for Water Resource Economics and has championed a new undergraduate business program in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

A native of Smiths Station, Ala., Edwards is a TROY alumnus, having completed his undergraduate studies in economics and social science geography in 1996. He earned a master of science in economic development, and a doctorate in international development from the University of Southern Mississippi. He joined the faculty at TROY in 2006 as director of the Center for International Business and Economic Development, after having served on the faculty of the University of Southern Mississippi and the University of North Dakota.
