TROY - Beverly West Leach, lecturer in the Department of Art and Design, has been named the recipient of the Faculty Senate Excellence Award at Troy University.
The award was presented by Faculty Senate President Dr. Dionne Rosser-Mims during the University's annual Honors Convocation on Monday on the Troy Campus.
The Faculty Senate Excellence Award is presented annually to an outstanding lecturer or adjunct faculty member who demonstrates excellence in the areas of teaching, research and service. It was presented for the first time in 2008.
"Receiving this award is an honor, and I am privileged to be working with so many fellow faculty members that excel in their fields," Leach said. "Troy University is a very nurturing environment for both students and faculty, making this an exceptional place to be. Thankfully, I have the chance to constantly be increasing my skills and knowledge while sharing my passion for art with our students."
Leach served TROY as an adjunct instructor from 2008 to 2010, before becoming a lecturer of art in 2010.
Leach has taught classes such as "E-Drawing," "Digital Tools," "Principles of Digital Design," "Visual Arts," "Printmaking," "Conceptual Drawing," "Form and Space," "Time and Space," "Paper/Screen" and "Introductory Drawing."
Leach is co-faculty advisor for the Troy University Advertising Club and advisor for The Women's Initiative. She also is a faculty member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. She has served the University on the Departmental Foundations Studies Development, International Center for Collaboration and Creativity, Departmental Marketing and Communication and Departmental Visual Arts Textbook Development committees.
Leach has also served as an adjunct professor of art at Wallace Community College and Enterprise-Ozark Community College, as well as art educator for the Wiregrass Museum of Art in Dothan. She also has previously has held positions as production manager, art director and graphic designer and is a member of Foundations in Art, Theory and Education, the Dothan Chapter of the American Advertising Federation and the Montgomery Art Guild.
Leach earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus, Ohio, and the Master of Fine Arts degree from Penn State University.
