TROY - The Troy University Symphony Band will present its final concert of the 2015-2016 season on Sunday, April 17.

The concert in Claudia Crosby Theater begins at 3:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Entitled "Luminosity," the concert features a premier performance of Joseph Scwantner’s new "Concerto for Wind Orchestra ‘Luminosity’," a significant new work in the band repertoire.

"Also joining us will be Dr. Graham Jones, former conductor of the United Kingdom’s Band of the Coldstream Guards," said Dr. Mark Walker, Director of Bands at TROY. "Andrew Patzig, a senior music education student, will be our featured soloist in Michael Daugherty’s timpani concerto, ‘Raise the Roof’."

Walker said the Band of the Coldstream Guards was formed in 1785, 13 years before the foundation of the U.S. Marine Band. Jones will conduct the symphony band in Strauss’ "Fanfare for Vienna Philharmonic."

Other pieces to appear in the show are "Niagara Falls" by Daugherty and William Walton’s "Crown Imperial."
