PHENIX CITY - Alabama State Rep. Chris Blackshear will deliver the keynote address to Troy University graduates during a joint spring commencement ceremony for the Phenix City Campus and the Columbus/Ft. Benning location on Friday, June 10, in Columbus.

About 147 students will graduate during the event, which will be held starting at 7 p.m. in the Columbus Convention and Trade Center.

Blackshear won a specially called election in January to fill the Alabama House of Representatives District 80 seat that came open with the death of Rep. Lesley Vance. Blackshear serves on the County and Municipal Government, Financial Services and Insurance Committees in the House of Representatives.

Previously, Blackshear was a Council Member At-large and Mayor Pro-Tem for the City of Phenix City.

Blackshear has served in the community most of his life, as a board member for the Phenix City Boys and Girls Club, President of the Central High School Football Booster Club, Chattahoochee Valley Community College Foundation Board member, Phenix City Planning Commission member and a loaned executive for the United Way annual fundraising campaign.

In 2014, Blackshear was named as one of the "Five under 40" by Columbus and the Valley Magazine. He has also been nominated as the Community Member of the Year three times and Volunteer of the Year by the Phenix City Educational Foundation.

Sports broadcasting has been a life-long hobby, and Blackshear has broadcast on radio and television for high school, college and semi-pro sports teams since 1993. He currently serves as the sideline reporter for Troy University football, a position he has held since 2005.
