DOTHAN - Troy University and the Dothan Houston County Library System will present gifts to about 40 local children on Oct. 6 at the library in downtown Dothan, thanks to a grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.

The presentation is part of Project Pre-K to K Transition, a partnership between the University and two Dothan child care centers designed to help 4-year-olds better transition into kindergarten.

The event takes place at 10 a.m. at the Main Branch of the Dothan Houston County Library, located at 445 N. Oates St.

Children from Eastside Childcare Learning Center and Pal-A-Roos Daycare will be presented with New York Times book bags provided by the John W. Schmidt Center for Student Success and copies of the book "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" provided by the Troy University Library.

The children will also be given specially created T-shirts provided by Troy University.

Dr. Hal Fulmer, the University's Associate Provost and Dean of Undergraduate and First Year Studies, will deliver remarks at the event.

Project Pre-K to K Transition is a grant funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation to provide high-quality research-based curriculum, as well as professional development and ongoing support for child care providers in the Dothan community.
