Media Advisory: Youth Leadership Forum delegates to visit State House, Capitol on Wednesday

9 a.m., Wednesday, June 7, Montgomery: Delegates of the 19th Alabama Governor’s Youth Leadership Forum will meet with community and state leaders at the Alabama State House beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, before touring the State Capitol.

The five-day annual event, sponsored by the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services and hosted by Troy University, is designed to help shape high school students with disabilities through a variety of sessions and activities on self-esteem, self-advocacy, career choice, independent living and leadership. During the Forum, delegates write a Personal Leadership Plan to assist them in becoming leaders in their communities.

Wednesday’s schedule in Montgomery is as follows:

  • 9 a.m. – Meet with community and state leaders, Alabama State House
  • 10:45 a.m. – Tour of the State Capitol
  • 12:30 p.m. – Mentor Luncheon, RSA Activity Center

The event will wrap up on Thursday with a luncheon and graduation ceremony in the Trojan Center Ballrooms on the Troy Campus, beginning at 12:45 p.m.
