Given the University’s history of service to the military, it should come as no surprise that many high-ranking military men and women call TROY their alma mater. What you may not know, however, is that the most powerful woman in the U.S. military earned a master’s degree from TROY.
Earlier this year, Air Force Gen. Lori Robinson was named commander of the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and United States Northern Command (NORTHCOM), making her the first female combatant commander in the country's history. Read more.
TROY recognized for unmanned aerial systems program
Troy University was recently ranked in the 15 Best Drone Training Colleges by SuccessfulStudent.org. The unmanned aerial systems minor is a part of the Bachelor of Applied Science in Resource and Technology Management – Aviation Operations program and was ranked seventh overall. The minor includes courses such as “Principles of Design,” “Human Factors: Operation and Accidents,” and “Ethical Considerations for UAS Operations.”
The 2016 Faculty and Staff Convocation will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 12 in the Claudia Crosby Theater on the Troy Campus. A reception will precede the event, beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the lobby of Hawkins Hall.
The convocation will also be available for viewing live at www.troy.edu/live.
University Photography, located on the first floor of Wallace Hall, will have an open studio on Aug. 12, beginning at 8 a.m. and resuming following the convocation. This provides a great opportunity for faculty and staff to have a new or updated photo taken. Photos will be taken first come, first served. Groups can be scheduled by appointment through a Helpdesk ticket to Photography/University Relations that includes requested times in the description, or by email to email@example.com.
Move-in Weekend, Odyssey Convocation
On the Troy Campus, volunteers are needed to welcome and assist students moving back to campus on Move-In Weekend, Aug. 13-14. Saturday hours will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., while Sunday hours will be 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Those wishing to volunteer should email Sara Jo Burks, including your name, t-shirt size and contact email.
Volunteers may check-in and receive their t-shirt at the Housing Office, 100 Shackelford Hall, on Friday, Aug. 12 or Saturday morning, Aug. 13. Volunteers will receive assigned work areas. For additional information, call 334-670-3346.
The Odyssey Convocation for new students will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 14 in Trojan Arena. TROY alumnus and Emmy award-winning journalist Tom Foreman of CNN will serve as the keynote speaker. A reception will follow in the Trojan Arena practice gym.
