Troy University will hold commencement ceremonies on the Troy, Dothan and Montgomery campuses in the coming days.

Randy McKinney, vice-chairman of the Alabama Commission on Higher Education, will deliver the keynote address during commencement exercises on the Troy Campus, at 10 a.m., Friday in Trojan Arena. More than 650 students representing 23 states, two U.S. territories, the District of Columbia and eight nations outside of the U.S. are expected to participate in the ceremony. Read more.

About 135 students will participate in Dothan Campus commencement exercises at 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 18 at the Dothan Civic Center. Dr. Imogene Mixson, who was recently honored as one of the University’s Alumni of the Year for 2016, will deliver the keynote address. Read more.

Nearly 200 students are expected to receive degrees at the Montgomery Campus this fall with commencement set for 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 19 in the Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts. Dr. Hank Dasinger, who was recently named dean of TROY’s College of Education, will deliver the keynote address. Read more.

Giving to TROY creates opportunities for students

Donors who contribute to Troy University’s Annual Fund help the University in a variety of ways, from supporting groundbreaking research by faculty members, to helping purchase equipment and resources. But perhaps the most lasting impact made by TROY donors is the many students who attend TROY with the help of Annual Fund supported scholarship programs. Read more.

TROY Public Radio launches end-of-year fund drive

Troy University Public Radio will launch its year-end fund drive on Wednesday with special on-air promotions through Friday.

Listeners can contribute to Troy University Public Radio by calling 1-800-800-6616 or online at www.troypublicradio.org. Contributions may also be sent by mail to Troy University Public Radio, Wallace Hall, Troy University, Troy, AL 36082. All contributions are tax deductible. To count on 2016 taxes, donations must be received no later than Dec. 31. Read more.

Trojans to face Ohio in Dollar General Bowl Dec. 23

TROY will make its sixth FBS bowl appearance when the Trojans play in the Dollar General Bowl in Mobile on Dec. 23 against the Ohio Bobcats of the Mid-American Conference. For full coverage, ticket information and additional bowl week activities, visit the Troy Athletics website.

Holiday outreach

The Phenix City Campus has partnered with families from the Housing Authority for more than 10 years, donating toys to needy children at Christmas. This year, 38 children from 11 families were adopted by the Phenix City Campus. Students, faculty and staff shopped for items on the children’s wish lists and will present the gifts to parents on Tuesday at the Riverfront Campus.

  • Information Technology has several upcoming training opportunities available, many of which are available both on-site and via WebEx. Learn more and register online for upcoming sessions.
  • The Phenix City Riverfront Campus will host a Regional Tourism Partnership meeting today, which includes individuals from both Alabama and Georgia.
  • The annual faculty/staff Christmas luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday in the Trojan Center Ballrooms on the Troy Campus. In an effort to support local needs for children in the Troy area, the University will once again participate in its “Toys for Tickets” campaign. Those wishing to attend can bring a toy, valued between $7 and $10 to exchange for a luncheon ticket through 5 p.m. on Dec. 12 in the Student Services Office in room 231 of the Trojan Center. The event is presented by the Division of Student Services and Sodexo Dining Services.
  • Men’s basketball will take on Point University at the Dothan Civic Center at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
  • The Montgomery Campus Christmas luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, in the Gold Room in Whitley Hall. Tickets are $11, and must be purchased by Tuesday. Tickets are available from Josie Lee (400 Whitley Hall), Emma Johnson (Davis Theatre) and Rachel Skipworth (215 Whitley Hall). School supplies will be collected at the luncheon for the campus’ Partner in Education, Davis Elementary School.
  • The Phenix City Campus will hold its faculty/staff Christmas luncheon at 1 p.m. on Thursday in Pitts Hall.
  • Women’s basketball will play host to UAB at Trojan Arena at 2 p.m. on Dec. 18. The team will be back at Trojan Arena on Dec. 29 as they play host to Armstrong State at 6 p.m.
  • The Veterans’ Voices exhibit is now on display through the first week in January at the Rosa Parks Museum’s gallery.
Congratulations to the following for their achievements:
  • Beverly West Leach, Lecturer in Art and Design, was recently elected to serve on The Board of Directors at the Wiregrass Museum of Art in Dothan, Alabama. Ms. Leach will bridge her work as a professor of art at Troy’s main campus to the arts community in Dothan.
