Dr. James S. Albritton
Associate Professor of Criminal Justice and Social Sciences
Dr. James S. Albritton is associate professor of criminal justice and social sciences at Troy University. He joined the University’s faculty in 2001 and instructs in both graduate and undergraduate criminal justice programs.
Dr. Albritton earned his doctorate in political sociology and criminology in 1972 at the University of Bordeaux (France), where he also received a master of science in political sociology and criminology and a bachelor of arts degree in international relations and law in addition to a law degree. His earned a bachelor of arts degree in history and social science from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1966.
During is career, he has served as associate professor and director of Marquette University’s Criminology and Law Studies program, and has served on the faculty of Mercer University, the Center for the Study of Democratic Institutions and the University of Bordeaux.
A sworn Georgia police officer from 1981 until 1986, Dr. Albritton has extensively researched law enforcement and is co-director of Troy University’s Project Safe Neighborhoods/Alabama ICE Initiative, funded through a three-year federal grant researching firearms violence in Alabama’s Middle Federal District. He has consulted with police and sheriff’s departments in Georgia and Wisconsin, and with the French National Police and Gendarmerie.
