Dr. Geraldine Allen
Director, MSN Program
Dr. Geraldine Allen is associate professor of nursing and is Troy University’s lead instructor for acute-care courses. A native of Selma, she joined the University’s faculty in 1992 as an assistant professor in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing’s Upward Mobility Program and has served as the Master of Science in Nursing’s coordinator.
Dr. Allen earned her doctoral degree in nursing from the University of Alabama – Birmingham in 1998, the culmination of an academic endeavor started after high school. She became a licensed practical nurse and earned her associate’s degree in nursing at Wallace Community College in 1980 before returning to Troy State University to complete her bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
Her clinical work includes obstetrics, pediatrics, orthopedics, ostomy, geriatrics, medical-surgical and acute care. She has served on the staff of hospitals in both nursing and administrative roles, serving seven years as coordinator of an intensive-care unit. She is a faculty affiliate of the State of Alabama in ACLS, BCLS, NALS and PALS emergency courses, a legal nurse consultant and is president of the Allen-Health Related Consultant Firm. Her research includes the area of cardiovascular disease. |
