Dr. Edith W. Smith
Professor of Kinesiology and Health Promotion
Dr. Edith W. Smith is professor of kinesiology and health promotion at Troy University and currently chairs the Sport & Exercise Science Section of the Alabama Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. She is a certified health and fitness instructor through the American College of Sport Medicine and is a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
Dr. Smith earned her doctorate in physiology at Auburn University, where she completed a master of education degree. She earned a bachelor of science in biology and physical education at Troy State University.
She joined Troy University in 1993 as an adjunct professor on the Dothan Campus, after having filled instructional positions at Auburn and Wallace Community College.
Dr. Smith was head coach for women’s basketball at Wallace, and was twice selected coach of the year by the Southern Division of the Alabama Junior College Athletic Association and was a two-time head coach for the AJCAA’s West All-Stars.
