Troy University professor’s book looks at race, class and gender at Love Canal
TROY – For Troy University associate professor of history Dr. Elizabeth Blum, a toxic waste-riddled neighborhood in New York state says a lot about environmentalism.
Blum, author of the newly published “Love Canal Revisited: Race, Class and Gender in Environmental Activism,” shows the activists at Love Canal, a neighborhood in Niagara Falls, N.Y., were diverse and that much more than toxins lurked beneath the surface in the neighbor’s struggle to gain relocation.
On May 9, she will be the featured author at a Barnes & Noble Campus Bookstores book signing event from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. on the Troy Campus. Spring Commencement begins at 10:30 a.m. in Sartain Hall. The book, published by University Press of Kansas, will be available for purchase at the bookstore.

Troy University student’s artwork pays off
TROY—A Troy University art and design student has received a $1,500 cash prize from a South Carolina-based technology manufacturing firm for designing a poster promoting the company’s main product.
Turgay Tuncer, 27, competed with more than 100 other student artists from around the nation in the poster contest sponsored by eDR Solutions of Greenville, SC. The poster promotes the Hard Drive Crusher, which physically destroys obsolete hard drives so that no information can be recovered from them. Tuncer’s winning artwork resulted in a donation of a Hard Drive Crusher, valued at $11,500, to the information technology department at Troy University.
