| Dr. Stephen Landers, a Troy University biology professor, spent 10 days aboard the NOAA Ship MacArthur II conducting research on protozoans attached to krill, a shrimp-like creature better known as baleen whale food. The research cruise sailed between San Francisco and Astoria, Ore. |
A bloom of the jellyfish-like animal velella drew the attention of Troy University biology professor Dr. Stephen Landers during a 10-day research voyage this summer aboard the NOAA Ship MacArthur II. Landers was continuing a study on protozoans attached to krill, a shrimp-like creature, but said witnessing first-hand occurrences at sea helps him better explain such things to students in his classroom. |
