Senior Vice Chancellor Dr. Doug Patterson honored with retirement luncheon

| Troy University Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr. commends Dr. Doug Patterson, senior vice chancellor for administration, during a retirement luncheon held in Patterson’s honor on Wednesday in Sartain Hall on the Troy Campus. Patterson, a Mobile native, came to Troy University 18 years ago when Dr. Hawkins took the helm of the University. The two met in 1963 as students at Alabama College, now the University of Montevallo, and had previously worked side by side at the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind in Talladega. In his role as senior vice chancellor for administration, Dr. Patterson oversaw the University’s athletics programs and was instrumental in the University’s move to NCAA Division I status. | Troy University Senior Vice Chancellor for Administration Dr. Doug Patterson bids farewell during a retirement luncheon held in his honor on Wednesday in Sartain Hall on the Troy Campus. Patterson, who is retiring after 18 years of service to the University, directed the institution’s finance and budgeting, information technology, institutional effectiveness, strategic planning and athletics. A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, Patterson served as a platoon commander for a Combat Engineer Platoon and as an intelligence officer for the First Engineer Battalion of the First Marine Division in the Republic of Vietnam. In October, Patterson was honored as the University Honorary Alumnus of the Year.
