Dr. Judith Gilliam, president of the Alabama Association of the Deaf, signs her comments during Thursday’s press conference announcing Troy University’s Interpreter Training Program. Troy University officials, along with Gov. Bob Riley, announced a $250,000 grant from the Department of Education that will be used to implement a bachelor’s degree program aimed at increasing the number of interpreters for the deaf and hearing impaired. The University will provide $250,000 in matching funds to establish the program. |

TROY’s Interpreter Training Program, which was made possible through a $250,000 grant from the Department of Education and $250,000 in matching funds provided by the University, the state’s first bachelor of science degree in education with a comprehensive program in interpreting. |
